The Weekend Comes to an End

Chaps
This was a full weekend. It was a 4-day weekend for me as I don’t teach on Fridays and as Monday was also a holiday that gave me 4 days to do what I wanted to get done. Friday was a rather relaxing day but for going to the gym. I should have cleaned house but that had to wait until this morning. (Monday)_

On Fri it was the Rodeo here in Kansas City. If you are interested you can see pictures of the rodeo at the following link.

On Sunday morning it was off to the Renaissance Festival with some friends. The weather was amazing as it was sunny and much cooler than normal thanks to the storm skirling across the East Coast of the US. If you are interesting in some pictures from the festival they can be seen at.

Then after I got home from the Rennesance Festival it was off to Crown Center Square to enjoy the Irish festival. Pictures from the Irish festival can be seen here.

I got there pretty early and by the time I left it was packed. I mainly went for the music as I love Irish Pup Music and they had some very good performers. It was difficult to not drink mass quantities of beer while listening to the upbeat music of the performing groups. If it were not for the $4 a beer price I might have had more.

I saw Black 47 at 4:30

Followed by Gaelic Storm at 7 PM (you may have seen Gaelic storm in the movie Titanic, as they were the Irish bad that played in the party scene. They are really amazing.

And then at 9 PM it was The Elders.

Hit the gym today and off to the airport to pick up a friend at 8 PM and then get ready to go to work in the morning. Luckely Tuesday is one of my short days.

I'm a huge fan of all those bands. I actually know Black 47 personally. I'm friends with Dennis Dunaway (yes, the bassist from Alice Cooper) and his wife is the sister of one of the band members. They play every week in NYC, and you've *GOT* to see them on their home turf. Brilliant.

Glad you had such a great time! I'll ring you tomorrow about where to meet. Actually, if the time is right, I may meet you at Logan.

talk to you tomorrow
My schedule tomorrow is to work until about 11 AM and then I have a meeting with an honor student to set up a schedule for our meetings this semester and turn in her contract. (An Extra $600 for it and me is pretty painless, however they keep about 48% of it in withholding) Then I am going to the gym to work out (legs tomorrow) and then home to figure out what I need to pack for the trip. As I said I am scheduled to get into Logan about 1:05 PM assuming all the flights are on time. Hope you had a good work out at the gym this afternoon and a relaxing evening. I kind of get the impression that you need several of them. Talk to you tomorrow.

Love to see them on their Home Turf
As for seeing Black 47 on their home turf, just let me know when it would work out? I need to use up a Rapid Rewards on Southwest by mid or late October. Sounds like a good plan to me. By the way all three bands were amazing. If you talk to your friends that are in Black Watch ask them how they enjoyed Kansas City. The weather was perfect and as the evening progressed the crowd just got bigger and bigger. They played earlier in the afternoon so the crowds had not gotten as large as it was by 8 PM or so. Gaelic Storm and The Elders are really big draws here in Kansas City. We have a very large Irish population and the second largest St. Pats Day Parade next only to Chicago’s Parade.

Wow, Black 47 and Gaelic Storm in the same day. That must have been amazing. Love both, though I've only seen Black 47. 'Special Reserve' is one of my favorite albums though. Keep on with the great music.

I had not heard Black 47 live before but have some of their music and Gaelic Storm is a big draw here in Kansas City as well as are The Elders which are also an amazing group and they all sound better live than on their recordings which is great. Was a pretty good deal all three concerts for $10. Some groups leave a bit to be desired when you hear a live performance but these groups are better live than on their recordings. The Elders will be back in Kansas City in October for a fall festival up in a small town of Weston Missouri. http://www.westonmo.com/visit/main.html

It is a fun little city actually. I am looking forward to going to enjoy their music again.

By the Way nice to meet you. John here in Kansas City

The New One is Great "Brin Yer Wellers"
By the way their new one is also very good. I do love Special Reserve. I was listening to that while I was posting to my LJ yesterday. I just love Johnny Tar dying of thirst. The new one is called “Bring Yer Wellers” Fun stuff if you like Special Reserve I think that you would like this one as well. If you get a chance to see them live don't miss it.
